On Saturday, June 15, join KBS naturalists and local scientists to explore and document the diversity of life, or “biodiversity”, of the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary during our BioBlitz event! Visit local organizations to learn about their work, upcoming events, and how to get involved in local conservation efforts.

Sanctuary BioBlitz Goals:

  • To collect data for KBS faculty research and foster an appreciation for biodiversity with the public through hands-on exploration and citizen science.
  • To provide valuable baseline data to the KBS conservation efforts on the distribution of species on the Sanctuary property.
  • To bring attention to the value of waterfowl and other organisms in the Sanctuary and to protect these resources for the education and enjoyment of all guests.
Who should attend:
  • All ages are welcome; bring the whole family!
  • Anyone who wants to improve their naturalist and identification knowledge and or skills; including families, community groups, and nature enthusiasts.

What if I don’t know anything? No problem! Both the a.m. and p.m. sessions include a brief tutorial on how to use the iNaturalist app on your phone. Each group will also have a lead expert and/or scientist to help with identification.

How: Register before the day of the event in order to choose the species you’re most interested in surveying.

Location: Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, 12685 E C Ave., Augusta, MI 49012

Where to meet: All BioBlitz participants will meet at the BioBlitz tent near the Sanctuary parking lot. Please arrive 30 minutes before your survey time for a brief orientation.
