2024 MSU Tollgate Farm 4-H Stewards Teen Leadership Program

The Tollgate Camp Teen Steward (15-19 yrs) and Tollgate Steward-in-Training (13-14 yrs) leadership roles are for teens interested in gaining experience serving with youth in the outdoors.

A steward is a person whose responsibility it is to take care of something. This experience offers teens a chance to enrich, mentor, and lead campers while gaining valuable leadership and life skills. In a positive educational environment, stewards and stewards-in-training develop a deep understanding and knowledge of the farm and our educational camp program as they develop skills which will strengthen their academic and work careers.

The Stewards-in-Training (SIT) program is the start of the progressive Tollgate Teen Leadership Program. Stewards-in-Training are 13-14 years of age and commit to at least one full week of camp. SITs serve as role models for campers and assist educational leaders during activities.
Cost for each steward-in-training week is $200 per week.

The Steward age 15-19 years serves as a volunteer assistant to the educational leaders and role models for both SITs and campers. First year stewards are asked to submit a resume and complete a 20-minute interview.

Important Dates for Stewards and SITs :

TBD after school in May - New steward interviews
June 21/22 - Mandatory Stewards and Stewards-in-Training Orientation and Training
Thursday, Aug. 1, 4:30 - 8:30 p.m. – Stewards and Stewards-in-Training Midsummer Celebration and Leadership Training
