Arrival/Check-in:
Check in occurs on Saturday, September 20 between 8-9 a.m. The workshop starts promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday and concludes at 8 p.m. Saturday meals include breakfast (served beginning at 8 a.m.), lunch, dinner, and snacks.
The workshop continues Sunday, September 21 at 9 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. Breakfast will be served on Sunday starting at 8 a.m. Lunch and snacks will also be provided.
Who:
Adult and teen 4-H volunteers who have been approved by their county MSU Extension 4-H Staff person to work with 4-H Shooting Sports Programs and who have at least a basic working knowledge of and experience in the discipline in which they wish to participate. Teens must be at least 14 years old as of Jan. 1, 2026.
What:
Learn about MI 4-H Shooting Sports mission policy, risk management, and safety, discipline-specific equipment use, and care, how to teach shooting fundamentals to youth, range set-up, and more.
Objectives:
The 4-H Shooting Sports Adult & Teen Instructors Certification Workshop provides leaders an opportunity to:
- Develop and improve skills in teaching shooting sports activities to youth.
- Work toward certification to become a Michigan 4-H Shooting Sports certified instructor in a variety of shooting disciplines.
- Learn how to develop, expand, and maintain local 4-H Shooting Sports programs.
- Exchange ideas for local and State 4-H Shooting Sports programs with other leaders.
Why:
All MI 4-H Shooting Sports Clubs must have instructors who have been certified through an official 4-H workshop in order to offer live-fire, on-range shooting and archery experiences to youth members.
How:
To register, use the link below. All volunteers must have completed the Volunteer Selection Process and have Active/Gold status prior to attending this event. In addition, all participants must complete the learning videos (modules) in Volunteer Central at least one week prior to attending. If modules are not completed; we reserve the right to cancel your registration. Details about the videos are available in the receipt from registration and include:

- Working with Youth
- 4-H Shooting Sports: Introduction
Following registration, volunteers will have these required videos marked for viewing through their volunteer dashboard in Volunteer Central. Individuals with poor or limited internet access may view videos at their county office by scheduling an appointment prior to September 9th with their county 4-H Staff professional. If the desired workshop is full, please select an alternate session.
Cost:
$100.00 - Registered Adults that have completed the Volunteer Selection Process, 4-H teen volunteers, and MSU Extension staff.
Persons canceling without a replacement after September 14th and those who do not show up at the workshop will be billed the full registration fee.
Certification requires full participation in both days of training and a successful completion of the training as evaluated by the Level 2 Trainers.
LODGING OPTION:
Lodging is not provided; you are responsible for payment of your room and all fees associated with your stay. However, we have a block of rooms reserved; reservations should be made prior to the dates listed below:

MEDIA RELEASE/MEDICAL TREATMENT AUTHORIZATION:
All teen workshop participants must complete the Media/Medical Release section of 4-H Online Enrollment. Adults must complete this section in Volunteer Central. This authorizes MSU Extension to record and photograph workshop participants and to use these photos and voice recordings in educational and promotional publications and programs. Due to the nature of the high-risk activities involved in this workshop, please review your 4-H Online profile and/or Volunteer Central profile to make sure it is up to date.
