Lake Huron Citizens Fishery Advisory Committee Meeting

A public meeting of the Lake Huron Citizens Fishery Advisory Committee. The charge of the Lake Huron Citizens Fishery Advisory Committee is to review and provide recommendations and direction into the fishery goals, objectives and management plans for Lake Huron. Members help the DNR chart the future course of fisheries management by representing the diversity of citizen interests in the Lake Huron basin. This meeting is open to the public, and registration for this event is free. 

Please register if you plan to attend either the in-person or zoom meeting. If attending in person, please register by May 20.

Proposed agenda:

  • 10:20 a.m. OPTIONAL Zoom Pre-Meeting Technology Check: Login early to test audio connection (Meaghan Gass, Michigan Sea Grant).
  • 10:30 a.m. Welcome and Introductions. (Frank Krist, Chair; Doug Schultz, DNR Lake Huron Basin Coordinator and Ed Beckley, Vice-Chair).
  • 10:40 a.m. Coho Salmon Mass Marking program in Lake Huron and Michigan, and status of merging USFWS and DNR CWT Data (Dr. Matt Kornis, USFW Service).
  • 11:20 a.m. “Lessons from 2020: what happens if we reduce sea lamprey control?”. (Benjamin Marcy-Quay, USGS Great Lakes Science Center).
  • 11:55 a.m. Impacts of climate change on the Lake Huron Fisheries (Todd Wills Research Manager, Lake Huron/Lake St. Clair/Lake Erie and Doug Schultz).
  • 12:25 p.m. Break 
  • 12:50 p.m. Development of the Committee’s Facebook site (Mike Veine Committee Member).
  • 1:15 p.m. Progress of the Cisco Program in Lake Huron (Dr. Dave Fielder, Fisheries Research Biologist and Modeler; and Jose Bonilla-Gomez, USFWS Lake Huron Native Species Program Coordinator).
  • 2 p.m. Fisheries Funding Status, Legislative, GLFC Update (Doug Schultz; Jim Johnson, Lake Huron Citizens Fishery Advisory Committee Advisor).
  • 2:40 p.m. Status summary of the Tribal Co-Management Citizens Advisory Committee (Steve Lenart, Tribal Coordination Unit Fisheries Biologist and Manager with some input from Tribal Co-Management Citizens Advisory Committee Members Frank and Mike Veine)
  • 3:05 p.m. Updates agency representatives.
  • 3:30 p.m. Adjourn.
