MSU Christmas Tree 2025 Field Day

Join the MSU Christmas Tree Team for an in-person field day event. Attendees will see the most recent research including exotic tree species, weed management techniques, and best management practices to improve tree establishment. 1 RUP credit will be available for those seeking re-certification credits (approved categories: 2, 3B, Comm. core, and Private Core). There is no cost to attend this event, however registration is required.
Agenda:
1-1:15: History and Current Function of Kellogg Forest Station, KJ Kettler, MSU Manager and Forester, W.K. Kellogg Experimental Forest
1:15-1:45: Exotic trees? Field demonstration of CoFirGue 2, an improved exotic tree selection program. Dr. Bert Cregg, MSU Professor
1:45-2: Nutrient management for new plantings, Bill Lindberg, MSU Extension Christmas Tree Educator
2-2:30: Weed identification, life cycle, and control options, Dr. Debalina Saha, MSU Assistant Professor
2:30-2:45: Break, light refreshments provided
2:45-3:15: Establishment Trial: Best practices for seedling establishment. Dr. Bert Cregg, MSU Professor
3:15-3:45: Herbicides Modes of Action. Dr. Debalina Saha, MSU Assistant Professor
3:45-4: Post meeting survey.
4: Adjourn.
