2026-2027 Produce Safety Grower Training Course

The Michigan On-Farm Produce Safety Team will offer a remote Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training via Zoom. This course is designed for fruit and vegetable growers, farm managers, and others interested in Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), produce safety, co-management, and compliance with the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule.

For farms covered by the FSMA Produce Safety Rule, this course satisfies the training requirement in 21 CFR §112.22(c), which requires at least one supervisor or responsible party to complete food safety training equivalent to the FDA-recognized standardized curriculum.

Course Schedule

• 9 a.m. ET: Orientation and paperwork
• 12 p.m. ET: Lunch break
• 12:30 p.m. ET: Training resumes
• 4:30 p.m. ET: Evaluation and certificate application
• 5 p.m. ET: Course concludes

Registration and Course Materials

Course materials, including the required PSA Training Manual, will be mailed directly to participants.

• U.S. registrations: Register at least three weeks before the course date.
• International registrations: Register at least four weeks before the course date to allow time for shipping and customs clearance.

All participants must have a printed PSA Training Manual available during the training.

To ensure successful delivery, please provide a physical mailing address during registration. We strongly recommend using a home address. PO Boxes cannot be accepted.

If a manual is returned as undeliverable or is lost after delivery, participants are responsible for the cost of a replacement manual and associated shipping charges.

Attendance Requirements

Because this course is delivered remotely, participants must attend using a device with a functioning camera.

Video attendance verification is required throughout the entire course. The Produce Safety Alliance requires confirmation of attendance for all training modules before a participant can receive a PSA/AFDO Certificate of Course Completion.

Certificates are typically issued within two weeks of successful course completion. 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation is free if requested in writing before the registration deadline by emailing bordenhe@msu.edu.

Once training materials have been shipped, the registration fee becomes nonrefundable.

• U.S. residents (excluding Alaska and Hawaii): $170
  Includes shipping costs.
• Alaska, Hawaii and Canadian residents: $220
  Includes additional shipping costs. If your manual does not arrive before training, your registration will be transferred to a future session.
• International Residents outside of North America: $270
  Includes international shipping. If your manual does not arrive before training, your registration will be transferred to a future session.
