Food companies are often faced with tough questions like those below…

  • Which new product would my customers like best?
  • Will consumers notice or care if I change out an ingredient?
  • How does my product compare to competitors on the market?
  • How should I tweak my product to optimize consumer liking?

These questions can be best answered through sensory and consumer testing.

The MSU Sensory Lab has a mission to make sensory and consumer insights accessible to food and beverage entrepreneurs, with three levels of offerings: full-service, low-cost, and DIY. The low-cost ($150) testing opportunity is a student-led, faculty-guided research program offered once a year during the fall semester, with applications for the 2025 program due on August 22.
