Navigating Funding Opportunities: Climate & Environmental Community Projects

Michigan State University Extension is hosting two free webinar opportunities to share the resources and support available to communities navigating state and federal funding opportunities related to climate and environmental projects. As an accessible way to get engaged with the Great Lakes Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (Great Lakes TCTAC), participants will have the option to choose the webinar date and time most convenient for their schedule: Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 1-4 p.m., or Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. These informational webinars will also be recorded and made available to participants and the public after the event.
With an unprecedented level of funding available at both the state and federal levels, navigating these opportunities can be overwhelming for communities, governments and organizations of all sizes—but that doesn’t mean they are alone in their efforts to successfully achieve their goals. During these webinars, MSU Extension professionals and guest speakers from partner organizations will provide an overview of services and support available through the Great Lakes TCTAC, including:
- Information, Tools, and Trainings
- Grant Identification and Navigation
- Project Development
- GIS Mapping
- Engineering Consultation and Analysis
- Budget and Evaluation Planning Support
- Post-Award Grant Support
Key grant opportunities for climate and environmental community projects at the federal level will also be discussed, including:
- Safe Streets and Roads for All
- Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program
- Green and Resilient Retrofit Program
- Community Change Grant Program
- Climate Pollution Reduction Grants
- Clean School Bus Program
- Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities
Participants will also hear from state government partners, including from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), about the different funding opportunities available specific to Michigan.
As requirements and applicant criteria vary by funding opportunity, local government leaders, community-based organizations, Tribal nations, state- and regional-level governing bodies, and more should consider attending one of these informational webinars to better understand the support and resources available to help them maximize this historic investment and transform their communities for generations to come.
