Start your day with a walk, wonder, and discovery! Morning Meanderings at the Farm invite visitors to explore Tollgate Farm in the fresh light of day while diving into fascinating natural science topics inspired by the season. Held one Sunday morning each month, May through November, these guided hikes are perfect for adults, families, scout groups, and anyone with a curiosity for the natural world. Each meander features a unique monthly theme and includes light snacks and beverages. Join us for a single hike or enjoy the full series throughout the year.
Vernal Pool Party
May 31 - 10 a.m.
Carved by ancient glaciers, vernal pools hold winter’s waters just long enough to host an incredible burst of life. Dive into discovery as we explore these temporary wetlands at Tollgate Farm and uncover the surprising plants and animals that rely on them each spring.
Forest Birding
June 21 - 10 a.m.
Forests are bustling bird neighborhoods! Join us as we explore how birds use trees for shelter, food, and nesting. We’ll look for cavity nesting birds, discover what’s on the forest menu, and learn why healthy woodlands are essential for so many feathered residents.
Polinators Promenade
July 26 - 10 a.m.
Love fresh fruits and vegetables? You can thank pollinators! Bees, butterflies, moths, beetles, hummingbirds, and more make our meals possible. Stroll through the gardens of Tollgate Farm for a closer look at who’s buzzing, fluttering, and hard at work among the blooms.
Family Birding
August 30 - 10 a.m.
Take a leisurely family walk and keep your eyes—and ears—open for birds along Tollgate Farm’s paths. This relaxed hike invites all ages to discover how birds care for their young, build strong family bonds, and raise the next generation.
Backyard Birding
September 27 - 10 a.m.
You don’t have to travel far to become a birder—your backyard is the perfect place to start! During this stroll through Tollgate Farm, we’ll focus on common backyard birds and share simple ways you can make your own outdoor spaces bird friendly.
Meandering through the Meadows
October 25 - 10 a.m.
Meadows are open, airy habitats full of bird life. Join us for a peaceful walk as we observe meadow dwelling birds, learn how they build their nests, and discover what makes these wide open spaces such an important place to call home.
Birding at the Pond
November 22 - 10 a.m.
From the water’s surface to the shoreline, ponds attract a fascinating mix of birds. On this birding adventure, we’ll explore who lives in and around the pond, what they eat, and where they nest—all while enjoying the quiet beauty of late fall at Tollgate Farm.
