Dig & Divide

June 6, 2024
6 - 7:30 p.m.

MSU Extension - Macomb County
21885 Dunham Rd.
Clinton Twp, MI 48036

Free to the public

MSU-Macomb's Demo Garden includes sections with roses, a shade garden, perennials, pollinator plantings, and grasses and sedges. Since the mid 1990s, volunteers have maintained the site in a sustainable manner for the enjoyment of building visitors and area residents.

This program will include a presentation on some of the plants within the garden. There will be a focus on the correct timing for plant division, the tools needed to divide plants, and interactive demonstrations on the correct way to split perennials. The class will cover how to dig out bulbs, tubers, and rhizomes and replant correctly in other locations. Weather permitting, participants are invited outdoors for hands-on experience in helping to divide some of the plants in the garden. The event will be led by David Lowenstein, Extension Educator, and volunteers from the MSU-Macomb Demo Garden.

If you wish to participate in the hands-on parts, please bring gardening gloves, a hand tool, and plastic bags to take home divided plants.

This event is supported by the Crop Protection and Pest Management Program [grant no 2021-70006-35450] from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

Registration for Dig & Divide is open.

Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on June 5, 2024.
