Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention New Instructor Training

This training is for new instructors for Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention. Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention is an evidence-based fall prevention program.  

Prerequisite:

  • Michigan State University Extension Staff OR
  • Approved through Michigan State University Extension's Volunteer Selection Process

Commitment includes:

  • Facilitate at least one series of classes for rural residents within 12 months of certification.
Required Attendance and Time Commitment: 
  • Asynchronous tai chi training (expect 25-50 hours to complete)
  • Three Zoom meetings 
    • Friday, Dec. 12, 9-10 a.m. CT/10-11 a.m. ET
    • Wednesday, Jan. 7, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. CT/9 a.m.-4 p.m. ET
    • Thursday, Jan. 8, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. CT/9 a.m.-4 p.m. ET
Please note that cameras must be turned on and trainee must be visible head to toe. 

It is very important that after you register for the training, you complete these next steps (will be included in the registration confirmation email):
  • Please complete this form for the Self-Paced portion of the training.
  • A link will be emailed for access to the Self-Paced Instructor Preparation Program. This asynchronous portion of the training will take 25-50 hours to complete. The Self-Paced Instructor Preparation Program must be completed by December 7, 2025.  
  • CPR Certification must be obtained and emailed to wethingn@msu.edu by Dec. 12, 2025.
  • Zoom information will be provided in a future email.  
  • Please feel free to join an MSU Extension offered Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention program to learn and observe how the program works!
