Solar Grazing Pasture Walk

Description: Individuals who attend this pasture walk will learn how sheep can be utilized for vegetation management under and around ground mounted solar arrays. Attendees will hear from the solar grazer, MSU Extension staff, Herbruck’s staff, the solar developer, and environmental consultants involved in the solar project.

Audience: Sheep producers, local government officials, electricity generators and aggregators, and solar developers are invited to attend this pasture walk to learn about various aspects of solar grazing.

Biosecurity protocol: The pasture walk is at an organic poultry operation. Individuals who own birds (pet birds, backyard flocks, commercial layer or broiler operations, and commercial turkey operations) or hogs cannot attend this event. Those who don’t own birds or hogs must have had no bird or hog contact within 72 hours of the pasture walk. Attendees will be asked to sign a biosecurity affidavit. Boot covers will be provided.

Parking: Please park in the MDOT park & ride lot at Grand River Avenue and Jordan Lake Road. A shuttle will take you to the meeting site. All participants, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask while riding the shuttle. It is a five-minute ride. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided.

Registration fee: There is no registration fee for this event.

COVID-19 UPDATE: We are planning for an in-person program on September 21. All participants, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask while indoors. Please do not attend any programs, meetings, or events if you feel ill. Social distancing is encouraged to the extent possible
