The 6th International Symposium on Beef Cattle Welfare will be held June 17-18, 2021 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.

The symposium brings together renowned beef experts that will discuss their latest research findings and emerging animal welfare issues that face the beef cattle industry. The symposium features topics of interest for producers, processors, retailers, government officials, NGOs, animal scientists, veterinarians and students.

The conference will kick-off with a keynote presentation from Bruce Feinberg, McDonald’s Sr. Director Global Quality Systems, discussing how McDonald’ values influence their practice to deliver quality food to consumers, make responsible sourcing choices, and their commitment to sustainable practices, including animal welfare, through their interactions with the beef industry.

The symposium will feature research on indoor beef production practices, the development of new or enhanced methods/tools for animal welfare assessment, emerging issues in beef production and management, and sustainable production. Research is critical to provide the science and technology to help stakeholders make informed decisions about best beef production and management practices to be sustainable and to secure the wellbeing of beef cattle. Two discussion roundtables will be offered each day for participants to engage a discussion with the speakers and each other.

Join us at the conference to hear from experts like Dr. Temple Grandin, Colorado State University; Dr. Maria Devant, Institute of AgriFood Research and Technology Spain; Dr. Bernadette Earley, TEAGASC, Ireland; Dr. Karen Genswein-Schwarzkopf, Agriculture AgriFood Canada, and Dr. Kip  Lukasiewicz of Sandhills Cattle Consultants, among other experts on beef cattle care and wellbeing.
