Turf is a feature of many residential landscapes. A number of options can enhance the appearance and diversity of front and rear yards. Bee lawns, wildflower gardens, and rain gardens are a few of the options. This program will highlight a low maintenance option - ornamental grasses - which require fewer chemicals and minimal to no mowing.
This program will include a presentation on why turf alternatives should be considered for a portion of your garden, recommendations for plants that are easy to maintain, and an outdoor walk (weather permitting) to view the grasses and sedges garden, discuss installation, and annual maintenance requirements. The MSU Extension - Macomb office has installed and maintained a grasses and sedges garden on our campus. Come and see its progression over time and consider a new way to diversify your garden. A limited number of free ornamental grass plugs will be available to participants
This work is supported by the Crop Protection and Pest Management Program [grant no 2024-70006-43569] from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
