Battling Brassica Baddies I: Alternaria and Black rot in Heading Brassicas
Our Extension team has worked with growers battling Alternaria and black rot, two tough to manage diseases we've seen destroy an entire brassica planting, on farms big and small. Hear from Dr. Bhabesh Dutta of the University of Georgia as he discusses organic and conventional strategies for managing these nasty diseases in crops like broccoli and cauliflower.

Feb. 18, 2025 - 10 - 11 a.m. ET
Best Practices for Quality Sweet Onions
Sweet onions are a big hit for consumers, but have more quality issues than their pungent, yellow counterparts, including rots that don't show up until a customer cuts into a big beautiful onion. We reached out to Christy Hoepting of Cornell, a true onion expert, so you could join us to learn what you can do to keep quality high and customers happy.

March 20, 2025 - 10 - 11 a.m.
Black Rot Management in Strawberries
Have you seen this? Strawberry plants start to wilt and die, turning what was a nice planting into a patchwork of live, partly dead, and dead plants. One culprit can be a tag-teaming group of pathogens that cause "black root rot." Dr. Tim Miles, MSU Small Fruit pathologist, has provided helpful, research-based advice as out team helps individual farms. Join us so you can talk with him too.

April 8, 2025 - 10 - 11 a.m.
Brassica Baddies II: Clubroot
Some diseases "bite the root that feeds" a farm, and clubroot is one of them. Once a farm gets this soilborne disease, it's not possible to get rid of it. And it tends to be worse on the very farms that depend on brassicas as a key income source. Join our Canadian colleague Dr. Mary Ruth Macdonald as she discusses what growers can do to live with this tough disease.

Registration for MSU Veggie Grower Virtual Coffee Break is open.

Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on April 7, 2025.
