Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center

Voices for Food will be heading to Michigan State University to provide a learning experience that will equip participants with strategies to address food security through community coaching. Members of the Voices for Food (VFF) team include educators from South Dakota State University Extension, University of Nebraska - Lincoln Extension, University of Missour Extension, Purdue University, Ohio State University Extension, and Michigan State University Extension. The expert VFF team will help participants learn through hands-on experiences.

Voices for Food (VFF) began work in 2012 and has concluded the 6-year study using SNAP-Ed Educators and Paraprofessionals as community coaches to improve food security in rural, highly impoverished communities.  As a result, the VFF team has compiled best practices for community coaches that are engaging in policies, systems, and environmental change (PSE) work in food pantries and with food policy councils. The VFF team is poised to release this model of community coaching and the accompanying evidence-based VFF Food Council Guide and the VFF Food Pantry Toolkit for use. The results of the 6-year study and the corresponding tools, which include the VFF Coaching Confidence Scorecard, the VFF Food Policy Council Scorecard and the VFF MyChoice Scorecard, will be shared in hands on learning environments.

Conference attendees may expect to learn:

1. How nutrition educators/instructors can implement the evidence-based VFF strategies in order to meet the SNAP-Ed Guidance on (PSE) work.

2. How to use VFF materials.

3. How the project staff of Voices for Food overcame challenges and optimized opportunities during the implementation of this PSE work.
