MSU FIC personnel will hold a maple syrup making class that will focus on all levels of production
Topics include:
- What maple trees to use
- Sap collection methods
- How to tap
- Using buckets, tubing, vacuum
- Safe sanitation of equipment
- Sap processing with small scale Reverse Osmosis units
- Boiling sap into syrup (small flat pans, small evaporators, larger scale commercial Evaporators)
- Using a simple low cost hydrometer to check syrup density
- Filtering and hot packing syrup for storage
