Maple Syrup 101

MSU FIC personnel will hold a maple syrup making class that will focus on all levels of production

Topics include: 

  • What maple trees to use
  • Sap collection methods
    • How to tap
    • Using buckets, tubing, vacuum
    • Safe sanitation of equipment
  • Sap processing with small scale Reverse Osmosis units
  • Boiling sap into syrup (small flat pans, small evaporators, larger scale commercial Evaporators)
  • Using a simple low cost hydrometer to check syrup density
  • Filtering and hot packing syrup for storage
  • Q&A
