2024 4-H Tractor Safety

Teens can improve their chances of employment this summer by completing a tractor safety training course!  

Leelanau 4-H will host a Tractor Safety Program for 14- and 15-year-old youth in Northwest Michigan. Youth must be age 14 by June 1, 2024. Space is limited! (16—19-year-olds can participate, but priority is given to 14-15 year olds). Class curriculum follows the Gearing Up For Safety: Production Agriculture Safety Training for Youth. Successful completion of a tractor operation safety course is required for all youth under the age of 16 who perform farm jobs classified as hazardous, under the U.S. Department of Labor’s Hazardous Occupation Order. To become certified, participants must attend all course sessions, pass a written test and a tractor driving test.

The program will run Sundays, May 5th, May 19th and June 2nd from 3-5 p.m. A written and driving test will be given on Sunday, June 9th by appointment between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Rain date of Sunday, June 15th) The programs and tests will take place at the NW Michigan Horticulture Research Center, 6686 S. Center Hwy., Traverse City. (County Road 633 between Suttons Bay & Traverse City)

$60 per person– includes: classes, manual, certificate and snack on test day. Some scholarships are available.
Cancellations accepted up until the last date of registration for a full refund.
