Field Crops Scouting In-Service
Monday, March 24, 2025
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Bayer Technology Development Center
3122 W Kipp Rd.
Mason, MI 48854
This event is an opportunity for MSU Extension educators who have a background in crop scouting to share information with new or newer educators who may not feel as confident. MSU Extension educators who feel comfortable and are knowledgeable in scouting field crops will be able to better provide programming, educational materials, crop updates, and management information for stakeholders. They will also be better prepared to coordinate and participate in on-farm research, especially research that requires a knowledge of crop staging and how to find and quantify pest pressures. All MSU Extension educators who work with field crops are welcome to attend, including but not limited to members of the field crops team, environmental team, animal agriculture team, etc. Please register by March 7 to make sure we can order in all the materials needed and include you in the lunch count. You can still register after that time, but be aware that you might not receive the reference materials and tools.
Check-in is at 9 a.m., and the following topics will be covered throughout the day. We will also actively scout an area to reinforce the topics.
- Crop Scouting Basics
- Crop Scouting Tools
- Crop Scouting Safety
- Crop Staging (corn, soybean, wheat, sugar beet, potato)
- Economic Pests in Field Crops (weed, disease, insect, nematode)
Registration for Field Crops Scouting In-Service is open.
Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on March 20, 2025.
