Roundtable Discussion: Christmas Trees and Climate Adaptation
Monday, July 8th
1 to 2 p.m. ET
Panelists: Bill Lindberg, Josh Bendorf, Bert Cregg, Deb McCullough, Gary Chastagner, Laurie Nowatzke
Event Description: Climate trends in the Midwestern region have far reaching agricultural impacts, including the production of Christmas trees. Climate data shows changes in precipitation patterns, annual and seasonal temperatures, and growing season length. Have you experienced these changes? Have they impacted your Christmas tree farm? Climate models project that many of these trends will continue into the future.
To address these challenges, the USDA Midwest Climate Hub and Christmas tree extension experts have written a bulletin on climate trends and mitigation options for Christmas tree production.
Producers who attend this session will have the chance to discuss the bulletin and hear what fellow growers have been experiencing in their region. Growers are encouraged to review the bulletin prior to the meeting.
Agenda:
- Introduction and opening poll question
- Review of Climate change impacts on Christmas tree production in the Midwest
- Open discussion – Zoom polls, grower feedback, and question and answer with Christmas tree experts
- Closing remarks
Cost: FREE
