Wayne County 4-H Two-Day Livestock Clinic
Join us for a comprehensive two-day livestock clinic designed to help youth build skills, gain confidence, and improve their knowledge of both small and large animal projects. Whether you're new to livestock or preparing for the show ring, these hands-on sessions will provide valuable guidance from experienced instructors.
Small Animal Clinic – Rabbits, Cavies, and Poultry
Friday, May 16th | 5 – 9 p.m. | $5
This evening clinic will focus on rabbits, cavies, and poultry (chickens and ducks only). Participants can choose up to three breakout sessions tailored to their interests and skill levels. Topics include:
- Fitting and Showmanship – Learn proper handling, presentation, and techniques for the show ring.
- Breed & Market Conformation – Understand breed standards and what judges look for in market animals.
- Basic Care & First Aid – Get expert advice on health, nutrition, and how to keep your animals in top condition. Understand best practices for feeding, health maintenance, and disease prevention.
After the sessions, a complimentary dinner will be provided as part of the registration fee.
Large Animal Clinic – Swine, Goats, Sheep, and Cattle
Saturday, May 17th | 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. | $5
This full-day clinic covers large animal livestock projects, offering hands-on instruction and in-depth discussions on:
- Fitting & Showmanship – Master handling and presentation skills for success in the show ring.
- Breed & Market Conformation – Learn how to evaluate livestock and improve selection strategies and what judges look for.
- Basic Care & First Aid – Get expert advice on health, nutrition, and how to keep your animals in top condition. Understand best practices for feeding, health maintenance, and disease prevention.
- Marketing Your Project – Discover how to promote and sell your market animals effectively and learn strategies to recruit auction buyers.
A pancake breakfast will be served before the event, and lunch is included with registration.
