Join us for the second annual Stuckman Lecture in Food Economics & Policy featuring Former U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow on The Future of Food and Farm Policy.

Former U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow shares reflections on the evolving landscape of American food and agricultural policy and the challenges ahead. Drawing on her extensive public service career and her tenure as Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, she explores how public policies, funding, research, and markets can work together to strengthen the nation’s food economy and build a more resilient future for producers, consumers, and rural communities.

Senator Debbie Stabenow

Senator Debbie Stabenow, a proud two-time graduate of Michigan State University, has been one of the most experienced agriculture and food policy leaders in Congress for decades, shaping federal policy through landmark legislation. Serving as either the Chairwoman or Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry since 2011, she has led the passage of more Farm Bills than any current member of Congress.

She is respected for her knowledge and persistence in building bipartisan consensus to get things done. She redefined the role of American agriculture by supporting more diverse agricultural crops and commodities, making historic investments in land and water conservation, providing more nutritious food choices for all Americans, growing the economies of local communities, and creating a greater role for American agriculture in solving the climate crisis.

After 50 years of public service, she proudly passed the torch in 2025 to a new generation of leaders, but her work continues to shape our nation’s food and farm policy, impacting generations to come.
